New JoinUO Website Launched!

Yay. I launched the new JoinUO website this morning. I know this was long awaited and I appreciate everyone's patience with the old site over the past few months.

You should find the shard administration to be much improved; the whole website should now be easier to use, and faster.

Quite a bit of work was done to prevent fraudulent voting, and prevent the display of dated information and broken links. We expect that JoinUO will now be much more useful to players and shard administrators alike.

The short list of new features:

• More charts:
  
  • Players Online (yeah we had this one)
  • Items in World
  • Mobiles in World (this is the sum of players and other creatures)
  • Server memory in use
• The shard list can now be sorted by "Newest shards"
• Shards with invalid information will no longer appear in the Newest Shards list
• Newest shards list is slightly bigger
• Hard linked url for shard Era's ( for example: http://www.joinuo.com/AOS )
• Nicer urls in general. This leads to better search indexing, resulting in more traffic for JoinUO and ultimately more traffic to your shard.
• Shard Profile pages. We hope to add more information to these in the future.
• Shard owners may now list more than one shard under their account, this is not a common requirement, but helpful if the need arises.
• Shard owner accounts are now linked to forum accounts. There is an option to import your existing shard into your forum account from the shard management page.

I am hoping that the functions of the site are straight forward enough that there does not need to be any instruction here on how to do anything on the new site; however if there are any question please feel free to post them here.

Note to shard owners: The link codes for both voting and the counter have changed; and while the old links will still work, we ask that you update them when you get a chance. The html code for these links is available on your shard details page once you are logged in.

Thanks guys! Was a long road to get it done. I'll be trying to put a bit of effort into getting us better traffic (although we're not bad right now). Hopefully we can grow the community some, maybe even get these boards more active

The new website looks great, but I'm having some problems. I can log onto the forum but not onto my shard settings. On the forum side I'm not seeing anywhere to access my shards information.
When I hit the link to go to 'My Shards' on the website, after logging in on the forum, I get this following error.

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

I'm sorry if I'm not seeing something but please advise. I'm needing to update my voting link etc, currently I'm unable to vote. I get a message saying I need a newer browser, I'm running Explorer 8, and something about a web proxy, which I've never changed any settings for that so not sure what is needed there.

Thanks. Trying to find out what's causing this. The My Shards section is where you would import your existing shard into your forum account. If that page is giving you an error you won't be able to inport it...

If anyone else has seen this happen, or if they have been able to import their existing shard without issue, please post.

This should be fixed. In the "My Shards" section, you should now see a link: "[Click here to import a shard created under the old accounting system..]"
Click that, choose the name of your existing shard and enter to old user name and password (the account created when you added the shard to JoinUO), and hit submit. You'll then be able to edit the shard, and retrieve the new vote and counter html code.

Hello, thanks for that information, I was able to import shard settings etc and update my links.

When I go to vote clicking the button from the website, I get the following response:
'Voting requires a modern browser and may not be done via an anonymous web proxy.
Continue to shard list."

I'm running Explorer 8 and haven't changed any settings on it. I know the idea is to prevent fraudulent voting. So any suggestions on what settings I need to look into to fix the anonymous web proxy thing so I can resume voting please? I am not familiar with proxy stuff, would that be a web browser related thing or something isp related?

This may be related to anti virus software. Can you send me a list of what you are running for software, either here or via a PM. I think Norton Internet Security may cause this. Also, if you have another browser (like FireFox) can you see if you can vote with it?

I'm running IE8 primarily as well and have not had this problem. I use Avast antivirus.

Some security software may act as a proxy, which may be causing this issue.
